5/16 Commentary

ENDED

MIN 4 -NYY 5: A-Rod just won it with a walk-off homer in the 11th. Mark Teixeira goes 4/4 and was one triple away from hitting for cycle.

PHI 8 -WAS 5: high-scoring morning game of this double-header. Their hats look soooo similar.

Three close games: CWS 1 - TOR 2, MIL 1 - STL 0, HOU 4 - CHC 5. Lots of bases-loaded drama in these games, it seemed.

IN PROGRESS

CLE (Alyssa Milano ex, Carl Pavano) v. TB (Matt Garza, ugh), scoreless in the 4th.
NYM 3 (Santana) - SF (Johnson hunting down 300 wins) 0, in the 3rd. Could Santana actually get a win tonight? Stay posted. This game is on right now FOX, I think.

LAA v. TEX, rain delay. BOOOOOOOOOO.

TONIGHT

LAD (Milton) v. FLA (Miller) @ 6.10p, some pretty angry-looking mugshots, there
PHI (?) v. WAS (Cabrera) @ 7.05p, love it when StatTracker lists players as "undefined"
COL (Cook) v. PIT (Snell) @ 7.05p
OAK (Braden) v. DET (Porcello) @ 7.05p
ARI (Scherzer) v. ATL (Kawakami) @ 7.10p, big smiles in those mughsots
BAL (Hill) v. KC (Davies) @ 7.1op
CIN (Volquez) v. SD (Geer) @ 10.05p, this might be weakest team matchup of the night
BOS (Beckett) v. SEA (Olson) @ 10.10p GO MARINERS!!!! I hate Josh Beckett.

Anyway, thanks A-Rod. Tribe is threatening with 2 on and 1 out as I sign off.

  4. haha i was also keeping tabs on rich hill, i had much faith in him as a cub. i hope he gets the win, his ability is dependent on his confidence level. as for ibanez, i hope he keeps on trucking for the second game.

  5. Oh snap John Lackey got ejected for hitting Ian Kinsler. WTF?!?!

  6. 1st inning ejection! Umps out of control!

  7. Ibanez is killing me today.

Actually, the Ladies are just killing themselves. Maybe we should have group therapy on Sunday night.

  8. Kinsler is a manchild.

  9. yeah lackey out after 2 pitches! i was planning to evaluate him before starting him next week but looks like he will have to stay benched, though it would be hilarious if he only got the start to hit people

  10. Apparently a former student of mine has a daughter who plays softball, and Carlos Lee's daughter is on the same team. Since they're playing in Chicago I guess Carlos stopped by. CAN YOU IMAGINE BEING CARLOS LEE'S DAUGHTER? DOES SHE BEAST LIKE MARLA IN 'A LEAGUE OF THEIR OWN'?

  11. Just logged back into Stat Tracker and it's 1.20a NYC time...Cin and SD still playing, tied at 5 in the bottom of the 9th. Guess they're on CA time, so 3 hours earlier, but still, THERE ARE PEOPLE PLAYING BASEBALL AS I TYPE. The world is strange.

  12. I'm waiting for that game to end to post the "Photos of the Day" for today. I don't want to miss another shaving cream incident if, for instance, Mr. Brandon Phillips does something magical.

Also, and not to rub it in, but there are people playing MLB: The Show as you all read this, even without the ultimate HDMI experience. WHATS WRONG WITH THE TV?!!? T_T

  13. I want to play that game.

What's up with CIN and SD...I thought they both sucked?! Was I wrong?

  14. Kei, BTW, the other night, someone asked me how we met and I was like "Uh, our college boyfriends were sitting around in a dorm room playing keyboards and Kei and I were eating Peeps soaked in Everclear." Not sure if that's the official story or not, but thought you should know that that's what I'm telling the world.

I want H.Blanco to hit a home run so that I can go to sleep knowing that all is neat and tidily wrapped up in the world. Otherwise, I will have baseball nightmares.

  15. no walkoff for phillips
    hes on the road

i smell one for agon coming up here though in the 11th

i think component will get you ultimate experience for games
just not bluray and licensed video content

last year san diego played in a game that ended way past 2am central time
it may have been longest game ever

    29 innings apparently is record
    3:21am here
    4:21 am on west coast

    "There was a seventh-inning stretch, a 14-inning stretch and finally, a 21st-inning stretch."

  17. 'Also, and not to rub it in, but there are people playing MLB: The Show as you all read this, even without the ultimate HDMI experience. WHATS WRONG WITH THE TV?!!? T_T'

    i misread this initially
but what can this be besides rubbing it in

  18. bah comment 2 above should obviously be
    4:21am on east coast

    stattracker window gets x'd now

  19. It's not rubbing it in because...this game is hard. Also, I am completely unused to thinking about baseball games as they are actually played. I am only capable of understanding baseball as reading and listening to results, and not as events that occur in real time.

The game pamphlet thingie said that you need HDMI for the game to be 1080, and it's at 720 now, I think. Anyway, even the trees in the background are better quality than anything Wii has to offer, so whatever.

  20. Jenni--I think that's an accurate description of our first official meeting, as opposed to the ones where we are merely aware of each other's presence through the Mighty Force that is Dr. Pacholec. That musical endeavor was funny, I remember it generally failing because it was just uninteresting noise...I hope I'm not hurting anyone's feelings.

  21. i stand corrected on ps3 display issues

cant believe this game is still going on
teams went 18 a year ago
    http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/recap?gid=280525125

i remember being angry as a volquez owner
at him coming out in relief on two days rest

and giving up the most runs he had all year up to that point to take the loss
